First United Methodist Church - Elkin, NC
Elkin First United Methodist Church Preschool offers many opportunities for your child to participate in whole child development. Our Program and Developmental Goals are to: • Promote development in the areas of physical, emotional-social, language, cognitive development, and learning characteristics. • Provide a common set of expectations for the child’s development and, at the same time, validate the individual differences that are expected in children. • Promote shared responsibility for the child’s early care and education with their family. Encourage and value family and community involvement in promoting every child’s success. • Emphasize the importance of play as an instructional strategy that promotes learning in early childhood programs. Support safe, clean, caring, and effective learning environments for young children. • Support appropriate teaching practices and provide a guide for gauging children’s progress. • Reflect and value the diversity that exists among children and families served in early care and education programs across the state. • Help prepare rising kindergarteners for the next stage in their early education experiences. Elkin FUMC Preschool believes in the mission of the church. Meaning, we recognize the responsibility for age-appropriate curriculum required for the Growth and Development of the whole child, including their Christian Faith. The example of Christian living that the child sees lived out daily is a major part of our curriculum. God’s love is shown through the kindness, gentleness, and the care provided by the teachers and staff. We recognize the uniqueness of each child (God’s creation) and desire for every child to know that he/she is special. Exposure to Scripture reading, verse memorization, Songs of praise, daily prayers and blessings provide the child with experiences in giving Thanks and talking with God. Along with Faith Development, all our teachers are trained in Early Child education techniques, First Aid, and CPR.
